The Director of Facility Engineering is responsible for engineering, construction, and operations of the critical infrastructure that supports Iron Mountain’s underground facility.

  • Directly responsible for managing the critical operations and construction teams that include 2 management and 11 non-management employees.  
  • Provide engineering oversight and construction supervision on all critical infrastructure activities and projects.  
  • Responsible for managing operational budgets and capital budgets associated with critical facility maintenance activities and construction projects.  
  • Develop and manage the maintenance programs for the critical infrastructure and data centers including periodic inspections and monitoring.  
  • Provide technical support on underground & data center facility space planning, emergency planning, mine rescue, and fire/life safety procedures.  


  • In-depth knowledge of complex electrical and mechanical systems including UPS systems, stand-by power, thermodynamics, air psychometrics, and energy conservation. 
  • Full understanding of preventative maintenance practices, critical infrastructure operations, and fire and life safety systems. 
  • Proficiency in managing multiple complex projects over $5M. 
  • Experience in the Corporate Real Estate and Data Center industries. 
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and local codes. 
  • Excellent written, presentation, and customer relationship skills. 
  • An understanding of Iron Mountain’s businesses including revenue and operating budgets is highly desirable.  Experience in the data center industry is required.  Experience in managing relationships with all levels of employees including training and sharing of critical knowledge is also required.  
  • This position must be able to manage complex capital project and lead cross organizational teams.  This position will manage both a critical operations team and a construction team consisting of approx 13 employees. 
  • Identifying potential risks and excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required. 
  • Creating, building, and managing relationships with key suppliers, business partners, and internal customers are vital to this position. 
  • Total travel 10%; overnight travel 10%. 
  • Licenses & Certifications Required:  Professional Engineering license is preferred, but not required. 
  • Education/Experience:  4 year college degree required, Master's degree preferred / 7 - 10 years required, 10 + years preferred.
