A Vertical Principle in IGDS Consulting builds strategic, long-term account and industry relationships within a specific industry vertical.  The Vertical principal is primarily focused on sales and business development responsibilities within their industry expertise, In addition, Vertical Principles are also expected to lead engagements, be highly-involved in practice leadership, driving thought and solution development, oversee management of their practices and mentor consultants who report to them.

The Principle will sell and lead engagements across the portfolio of IGDS Professional Services including:

  • Information Governance assessments, strategies, roadmaps, organizational design and program design and implementation spanning the disciplines of records management, law, privacy, information security and information technology
  • Content Classification and ROT remediation of paper and electronic content (both unstructured and structured sources) including providing these as managed services
  • Records Retention Schedule development and records management policy and program development
  • Iron Mountain Policy Center Solution and business partner software
  • Staff Augmentation

Responsibilities Include:


  • Partners with other internal leaders and vertical sales teams across Iron Mountain capability areas to design and sell information governance and digital transformation programs
  • Develops a recognized industry presence for IG&DS capabilities within their assigned vertical by delivering industry specific thought leadership to both clients and industry forums
  • Meets or exceeds assigned revenue targets by seeking out and identifying new information governance and digital transformation revenue opportunities at existing and potential clients
  • Develops and delivers insightful, value-added proposals that address complex client issues
  • Develop new client relationships through various means with support from Iron Mountain sales and executive teams



  • Build and maintain sustainable client executive relationships through high-quality delivery;  ensure results, exceed client expectations, and be a trusted advisor and partner
  • Manage scope, risks, results, schedule and profitability to deliver successful projects
  • Deliver C-level presentations, driving actions and decisions
  • Coach and develop junior consultants through on-the-job training


Practice Leadership

  • Oversee the management of their practice, including: deliverable acceptance, invoicing
  • Support the leadership and development of our people through people management and training
  • Develop our business by applying experience and topical knowledge to thought leadership and offering development
  • Communicate and market thought leadership via broader sector forums, such as speaking engagements, trade publications, and other print media
  • Partner with other internal leaders to grow the Iron Mountain brand






Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 -10 years relevant industry vertical experience
  • Minimum 7 years information management industry consulting or consulting sales experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience, plus JD, MLIS and/or professional industry certifications, such as Certified Records Manager (CRM) Information Governance Professional (IGP), or MLS (Master of Library Science) is preferred



  • Led business development activities at a recognized consultancy, providing responsible sales and delivery leadership in discovering and shaping opportunities, solution development, proposal generation, and deal closing stages
  • Managed a minimum of $4-5 million/year in consulting/solutions services revenue, meeting established profitability and utilization targets
  • Led consulting engagements, managing client expectations, and engagement staffing, issues and risks, contract change control, internal operational processes



  • Possess deep industry experience in one or more sectors of an Iron Mountain industry vertical (Currently Financial Services and Insurance, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Energy, Manufacturing and Technology).
  • Possess deep functional experience with the information management aspects of regulation and compliance within an Iron Mountain Industry vertical
  • Across the IG&DS domains of records management, privacy, security, information technology and eDiscovery/legal hold, digitization and workflow on a scale of 1 to 5, be at least a 3 in all and a 5 in one
  • Able to drive IG strategy through design, and implementation, acting as a trusted advisor to client cross-functional teams Able to build multi-year Information Governance roadmaps across different Information Governance domains including records management, information technology, information security, privacy and legal hold
  • Understands modern enterprise information technology including enterprise content management, cloud, artificial intelligence/machine learning and database archiving.
